I want to leave some category descriptions empty. Years ago we could just leave it empty, then we had to input something, so we typed a blank space. Then the blank space didn’t work anymore, so we used

It now looks like that even that isn’t working anymore.
I would just like to have the option back to leave fields empty, if I don’t need them. But what do others do here?

Thanks for posting, @bjoern_schulze  - this is an interesting one since i’m used to having descriptions for categories always.

Let me see if any of our fellow community friends have anything they’ve tried that has worked - @DannyPancratz @revote @Jef Vanlaer @mitchell.gordon @atwhite

I am sorry but I can´t add anything here. I use always descriptions. 😊

I use descriptions but I do understand the need to not use them.

Trying to think outside the box here. Is it possible to use a lorem ipsum verbiage then use CSS to block the specific wording? I believe this is possible and would work for a fix for you.

When I tested just now, using &nbsp; worked for me, although it appears that I would need to re-add it every time I edit the category, as the platform seems to clear out the code. Similarly, empty <p> tags, with just a space inside them, worked for me.

<p> </p>

But again, you’d have to reset it each time you edit the category.

In some cases, we just duplicate the category name. It’s redundant, but that makes it easy for people to scan over it and disregard it.

This might be a stretch, but you could also consider something with colors—if the background banner for your categories was solid and you used custom CSS to edit the description text to match the background, that would effectively hide it, especially if you put something small, like a period, as the text.

i agree with mitchell’s suggestion as the “best” permanent way to do this. Otherwise Aaron’s suggestion is a good easy work around that should work unless you’re often editing the category.
