Similar to my idea for marking answers:

This would incentivize the behavior we want to promote: voting on content helpfulness polls. This information helps community managers recognize the best and worst content. There are many use cases for this information, including featuring top content and correcting incorrect/unhelpful answers.

Solution:

If we want to promote a behavior, then match it to the incentives. With points as the foundation for gamification, such a feature would provide the reward. And Communities that tie these digital points into real-life benefits and rewards then have a stronger incentive to drive the behavior.

Hi @DannyPancratz, thanks for sharing!

As voting for content helpfulness can be done without logging in, it might be quite easy to game the system. Do you have concerns around that?

Also, could you also clarify a bit on who would get points in this case? The content author, or the person who voted for content helpfulness?

@xiaoyu-shen i was intending for points to go to the person who voted for content helpfulness.

With that approach, I assume your question about logged-out users gaming the system wouldn’t be relevant. Because without logging in, the system could not identify a user to award points to.
