Valuable UI Real Estate... could Dashboard selection drop-down and global filter area be merged?

When using Global Filters on dashboards, (one or two) it seems that a lot of UI real estate is blank/lost to the right and above. THe siggestiong would be a dynamic space for the Dashboard selection drop-down and Global filter components to expand/contract.
