Hi everyone,

Now that we have had this in open beta for a week, I’d like to see who has active feedback from customers who have enabled this feature OR customers who are still on the fence / unsure on using it yet.

Here is some feedback I’ve observed to get us started:

  • Make this feature optional when it goes GA
    • This is so we can allow our community to post ideas at module level and not be forced to create categories in the Community to enable ideas or product updates.
  • Ability to move ideas/product updates content from categories back into the module
    • This will support backwards compatibility and give you the option to enable / change your mind.
    • Also, it frees up the module to be used to store ideas or product updates, even when they are also supported in categories. Freedom of choice here.
  • Subscription experience needs love
    • We want to make it clear to our users on how they can subscribe to content and give them options on controlling their notifications experience.

These are the first 3 that we are going to address and I will share more details when I’m ready here in this group. Please take it away and comment on this existing feedback OR provide your own. I’m looking forward to hearing it and discussing!

Hi @Larry! I’m getting caught up with emails and I’m glad to see that this beta is being rolled out.

I’m intrigued on the new “ideas” within “categories” set up but before I enable this in our staging environment, I was wondering if there is a test/demo environment that you/Gainsight might have to share to go through the user experience?

I was taking a look at Gainsight’s very own set up and didn’t see that it’s enabled on this community. I can go off the documentation and screen-capture but it only capture’s so much.

Let me know if you happen to have a video walkthrough/gif or other screen captures you can share so I can get an idea on structuring view. That would be super helpful.

Side Note: Not sure if simply testing in our staging environment would permit the two views to work in tandem - Ideas Module enabled (with landing page and all) plus some test categories where we can submit some test ideas in. If those two can work together then I guess I don’t need to panic too much of messing with our Custom CSS we have for our Ideation. 🤔

Thanks in advance!

@genells You can test in your staging environment and I will be happy to record a video that is sharable here in this group. Do you have 30 minutes free within the next week so we could go through it live too? Send me a private message if you are and I’ll send my calendar / scheduler.

Question. Our Ideas are currently limited to certain roles. Our categories are open to most roles. If we moved our Ideas into the categories, could the Ideas still be limited to certain roles? We’d still want the other content open.

Example:

Registered Guests can View, Post, Reply to our main discussion forums but they can’t even View Ideas

Currently, the Ideas permissions on the Ideas module only apply to viewing the Ideas page and any ideas posted at the module level. In the next couple of months, we are going to start rolling out granular permissions that do address this problem where you can set what custom roles can do. I’ll share more detail once we get there but that is an active problem I’m working towards solving with the granular permissions.

Happy to discuss further and live if you need, @Chris Hackett !

We've had the new module active since January now. And while we're generally happy with the things it does, there's one thing that's proving to be fairly disastrous.

We've been publishing product updates regularly for some years now. As such, we have many people who are subscribed to product updates as a whole.

With the new module, it turns out that those subscriptions no longer work. People no longer get email notifications about new product updates. Instead, they only get notified if they are subscribed to the category the product update is placed in.

This is something we raised with you, Larry, back in January. And then you indicated it would be fixed.

But it is still happeing, so we raised a support ticket, just to be sure. And yesterday we received word that this is now apparantly as designed.

So, we now have to tell all our 1500 product update subscribers that they need to change their subscription to that of a category.

Our Product Updates are posted in some of our most popular categories. Which means that users who subscribe there will also be inundated with notifications about every. single. new topic in that category.

You've mentioned that subscriptions are also being worked on. So that people can choose which notifications they receive. But in the mean time, we're stuck.

In the current situation, we see markedly less traffic to our new published product updates because people are not aware they exist. We cannot ask of people to change their subscriptions because they would get flooded with email. And we cannot disable the new module because its features are also essential to our Ideation plans.
