Hi all!

I am already revamping my ranking in my community because a lot of people don't level up.
I mostly updated my lower levels and added a few more so that people actual level up more (high levels are still fine for now).

But when I did the rebuild, I noticed that hardly anything changed and I did some research on potential issues (together with my friend Claude) and we came to the conclusion that the Minimum amount of logins are not properly registered  and usefull (especially wtih an SSO).

And I was wondering if other people also ran into this problem and how you fixed is….

My workaround is that I focus more on minimum seconds since membership and other criteria.

And also, is there a proper way to use the criteria #minimal amount of logins.
Because on a member profile I cannot find that information anywhere…. I only see registration date and last login date… nowhere do I see amount of logins.

Im not 100% sure here but I believe the person has to log in to the platform to get their rank updated.

My gamification is setup semi similar where someone gets a first rank then gets a new one after 5 log ins. That should be the 3rd to the end and enter the info. The user will have to meet all criteria to get to that next rank.

Once you have the rankings setup properly, hit “Rebuild” if you would like an immediate update to your users ranks in the gamification system.

Yeah I confirm what @mitchell.gordon says about loging in, we have migrated to GS last year and some users have never logged in since and do not have a rank assigned to them.

Also, I think for tracking logings: Loging in is different than a daily visit. For instance if a user remained logged in for a week and checks the community daily, this will count as 1.

I think 😄 To be confirmed

@jvdc I was also wondering about that last point: if users choose to stay logged in, will it take longer for them to hit the number of logins to reach a rank?

We only use 1 login to set the first rank. We based all the other ranks directly on points to keep both gamifications aligned and easy to interpret.

@Jef Vanlaer

I was also wondering about that last point: if users choose to stay logged in, will it take longer for them to hit the number of logins to reach a rank?

yes in that logic, yes.  But again, we should have a Gainsight contact to confirm :-) @olimarrio

Yes and I think that is where things are not working for my ranking… if people remain logged in then this will not work. But perhaps Gainsight ca confrim this? @olimarrio  can you help clear this up?

Because I have a few super users, that since the launch early 2026 have over 150 post but as we initially had a ranking set on login they would not move up while they have met all the other criteria for higher ranks…

So I am expecting this to be the issue….

Yeah then something like Visits (in days) would work better.

Hey everyone 👋,

Yes the ‘logins’ condition here refers to the act of logging in.

Although this can be useful in specific use cases / ranks, I usually advise not setting logins as a condition across the majority of you ranking system and to focus on structuring it around active behaviours you want to encourage e.g. topic / reply creation, best answers.

Some of your most active users may not have to log in very often as their session is kept alive through consistent use so these users will not get rewarded for their efforts if a rank has a condition of a high number of logins. For instance, I only really have to login to the Gainsight Community after I’ve been on holiday.

We’ve scrapped logins as a meaningful metric for these exact reasons.

@olimarrio Since “logins” seems unreliable and isn’t recommended to use in member rank formulas (even though it’s an option), would it be possible to include something that utilizes something similar to the “last activity” that’s used in the user filters? Since “last activity” includes page views, that feels like a reliable alternative to counting logins. Would it be possible to add an option in the member rank formulas for “total days active” that’s essentially an aggregate of what’s being measured for “last activity?”

Hope that made sense!

Thanks all this helps me alot to make the final decision to cut out amount of logins into my ranks for now as I think most of the people would remain stuck on it based on staying logged in.

And I would really like to see the possibilities @atwhite  is suggesting on last activity or total days active as it would say more on how active they are.

BTW I included it my first set up of ranking as it was suggested by our onboarding manager.

When I finished my new ranking I'll share it here for inspiration.

@Sanne van Opstal-Brakel yep, I removed logins too, just kept it for very early stages.

If you need to make a difference so that a users doens't get through the ranks in one instance you could play with the “age”.
