Khoros → Gainsight: what do you wish you'd known about structure before migrating?
Hi all, we're a Khoros community migrating to Gainsight CC, currently working through our migration mapping and target structure. I'd love input from people who've been through this, especially other former Khoros customers.
First, a specific question about Ideas.
Is Ideas a place or a content type? If someone selects "Idea" and then picks a product category, where does it actually land — in that category, in a central Ideas module, or both? We think we're putting all ideas and feedback in one Ideas & Roadmap area (at least in theory 😬) rather than letting them sit in product areas alongside questions and conversations. But that means someone with an idea about a specific product has to leave that product's area to post it. Is that how you've set it up, and does it hold up in practice — or do people just post ideas in non idea modules because that's where they already are?
Second, the bigger thing I'm trying to build a mental model for.
Coming from Khoros, I keep reaching for "boards" and it doesn't map cleanly. My current understanding is that sections group navigation, categories are roughly board-equivalents, and each category declares which content types it supports.
If that's roughly right, curious to hear from other gainsight customers
- How many content types should one category allow? We were planning to restrict some areas to questions only, and have since learned that could misroute content, since users select type before category. Hence me now questioning how ‘ideas’ content type vs. module work(s) and whether we should reconsider limiting content types at all. 🤷
- What did you get wrong the first time? Tthe structural decision you'd make differently if you were starting over.
- And for former Khoros customers specifically: what mattered most structurally that wasn't obvious during migration planning? We're trying to avoid decisions that are cheap now and expensive in two years.
