Possibility to change author of content

Related products:CC Knowledge BaseCC ModerationCC Product UpdatesCC Topic Creation

In our community some of the first topics (like welcome post, new to the community etc.) are written by a person no longer working with the community. I wish to change the author from her to me as I am now the person our members are interacting with and I would like them to see my face on the introduction threads and similar topics.

I think it would be great if one could change author between Community managers at least, so that we don’t have to delete and repost content if someone is leaving, or log in to multiple users and keep them active to make it more welcoming for members and to make sure we’re not missing pm’s etc.

Thanks,

Mette

This would be beneficial for our Glint community too, for all the reasons already listed :)

oh yeah, upvote on this! We are just launching the beta of our community and from a work-delegation perspective, it makes sense (for us) that the Community Manager has the ability to queue up posts for other team-members. Right now, if I were to set up an article and input content, add tags, put in the right category, etc., then add that post to the Monday.com board, my teammate publishes it but it looks like i wrote every single post. My goal is to make it so that it doesn’t look like I’m the one-man show on Community, without making my teammates have to do so much work to get a post published.

Hope there’s a solution for this in the near future!

So I’ve found a decent workaround for when a colleague leaves. I follow these steps:

  • Find their profile on the Control environment
  • Change their job to “Retired Bizzaboer”
  • Change their email to admin.email+name@bizzabo.com
  • Remove their SSO I.D

With G-Suite/Gmail, if you put `+whatever` before the @, it’ll spoof systems into believing it’s a unique email, but you’ll still receive them at your regular email.

Doesn’t solve for the exec posting piece, but it’s a deec workaround!

Hey all -

Any update on this? We just had a scenario where our co-founder wanted us to ghost-write and post something on his behalf on Insided. Getting him into Control wasn’t the smoothest.

Cheers!

Ben

We really need this. We are going to get KBs contributed from folks all over the organization, and we want to centralize a few folks to post them, but notifications should go back to the original author so we need to change that.

Rather than even just changing, maybe a “post as” option like outlook has “send as”.

Gets my vote. I just ran into this issue due a mistake on our part during our implementation. Going to cost me a bunch of time and effort

Many use case I can see here:

  • not having to grant access to a PM to post their product updates -- I could do it for them on their behalf and they’d still get the responses to their update
  • avoiding needing articles, events, etc. to come from someone particular

Wonder how much this has to do with the desire to sell licensed seats?

We really need this rather sooner than later. When personnel turn-over hits our community team and members leave to take on other jobs/roles, being unable to completely replace any information associated with former employees on our publicly available community website essentially leaves us with a potential risk to our brand. Please fix this, @inSided CSM

Agree, this would be an extremely helpful feature for queueing up content!

This! :point_up_2_tone2: Exactly what we need. It is such a waste t o write content all over, and on top of that: to lose the (high) value of the content in search engines.

Looking forward to this feature.

Hi all! I’m happy to announce an initial BETA release of a feature addressing the need to publish content on behalf of another user. If you’re interested, please join this group where you’ll find additional information.

Thank you and looking forward to your feedback!

@Cristina - regarding the feature you are beta testing, what is the full scope? Will this future feature only allow a different author on new posts? Or are you also adding the ability to change the author of an already-created topic? I’m looking for the latter and it seems that is what the OP was originally asking for as well.

Hey @alexandra.culler! The scope for the feature we’ll be shortly releasing is to be able to publish new articles and product updates on behalf of another user. Indeed, the initial idea submitted here was for the ability to change the author of an already published topic. However, based on all the use case presented on this thread where the author has to be different, we identified also the need to be able to publish with someone else as the displayed author. We looked at the 2 needs from a technical point of view and it made sense to start working on this feature first, and lay the groundwork for the ability to change the author of a published topic, which will be planned for the near future.

That’s pretty disappointing considering the ability to post on someone else’s behalf was already available in the API. I have several users who were incorrectly imported into our forum following the data migration in August. Their posts were either attributed to the wrong account, or were made “anonymous” and attributed to no account at all. I contacted support about this almost 2 months ago and have seen no updates. It would be nice to be able to just do the work myself at this point even if it’s via the API.

Beyond that, there’s the simply problem of company turnover that isn’t addressed. We have several people who leave our company but continue to use our product and engage with the community. I would like to be able to transfer ownership of their content to their new accounts. Alongside that, I’d like to be able to transfer ownership of product-related items to the new product manager instead of deleting them and re-posting them on his behalf. As was mentioned before, deleting the content is bad for SEO and not-ideal for users who are subscribed to or have bookmarked a particular post.

All that isn’t to say I’m not appreciative of the progress being made - I just hope the additional scope is actually carried out in the near future instead of 2-3 years down the line :/.

Thank you, @alexandra.culler for your feedback. Previously the API would only accept moderators to post on their behalf, now the chosen author can be a normal registered user.

It is our intention to follow up with the extended scope to cover changing the author after the topic is published and I will keep you informed about this.

Hi InSided and other Community-users, I know the idea's been delivered, at least partially, but are there any plans to move forward with the general concept and make it able to change the author post publication? Our Community has a bunch of topics which are extremely beneficial to our SEO, for instance, yet also raise questions considering most have been published by authors/colleagues no longer amidst our team. Hope you can implement this feature soon. Thanks in advance and warm regards!

Hi @JasonTMT! Thank you for your question and for sharing your use case with us. We are planning to start working soon on a feature which will allow you to update the author of published articles and product updates. We have this idea where we’ll be sharing updates so I would recommend to “subscribe” in order to received notifications:
