Gainsight Home - Relationship Filters (Global)New Idea

I’ll start by saying I don’t know if there is a better way to handle this or what that might be, but that the current experience is a bit awkward and could potentially be prohibitive of us deploying Home or at least getting the most out of it. For background, we recently deployed relationships, meaning that if it’s possible we will want to show both Company AND Relationship data on GS Home. The way the global filters work is you have to pre-select company or relationship and then configure your reports/widgets et al to be keyed to those filters. Today, there isn’t really a way to visually see which global filters are company filters and which are relationship filters, and no way to easily have one set of filters work on Company, and one on Relationships. Depending on what you are trying to do, this makes ensuring company and relationship data are filtered appropriately rather complex. For end users, this seems like it would be impossible to manage. You don’t know what objects on Home the global filters act on, your filters may act one way on company data and another on relationship data but you would have a hard time understanding let alone manipulating that if you wanted to change something. This is extra complicated by the fact you can’t alias filter names at all yet to provide any help to your end users. I guess this is more of a discussion starter than a solid ask, but GS Home seems set up to work with Company OR relationship data and it isn’t clear how well it can work with both.

Custom Value Handling on Lookup Fields in ActionsNew Idea

So, I’d like to preface this post with two points:1.) I believe there’s a very similar post already floating around out there but couldn’t find it so no hard feelings if you merge mine away2.) This probably relates to some improvements that were recently made to lookup handling in Report Builder which were, on the whole, popular with others. My issue is not with the behavior in Report Builder, though there are some specific issues on that side of the house that I’m omitting because people seem to like how this behaves today. When working in Rules, I sometimes find myself needing to load a top-level ID to a field which is ALSO a lookup. In Bionic rules, I was able to do this pretty simply with a single fetch task and a custom field in the actions to update the affected records with the new ID value.  In Horizon rules, however, lookup fields open a search box - even while mapping a custom field. This means that I can no longer just paste the desired ID to the custom field mapping. The workaround is to create a transform and use a Case statement to force the new value into a standalone string field, and map that instead. The criteria on the Case are a bit silly because I’ve already fetched my affected records, and it adds an extra step to the process.I’m not sure if I’m in the majority on this, but I’d appreciate being able to handkey in the exact string value for these - at least when mapping a custom field. Bonus points if we could get the best of both worlds and surface a toggle to allow admins to pick between “Search” or “Use Specific”.

Have Data Designer Dependencies Sync with Data ManagementNew Idea

This feels like a bug to me and may still get a ticket going for it but here’s the story: As an admin, I want to be able to rely on Dependency verification in Data Management so that if I need to expunge, document, etc., a field from/in my instance I can easily identify ALL locations where that field is used in order to do so. Problem/Context:I search for Company>FieldA in Data management for dependencies. I get a list of dependencies including a handful of Data Designer objects as well as 2 reports. Two reports seems suspiciously low considering that this field is linked to more Data Designer objects than that.I pull up Data Design 1, and run a dependency check on FieldA (which remember was originally derived at some point from Company>FieldA), and low and behold there are thirteen reports that use this field!!! Strictly speaking, it is a different object with a field by the same name, but in that DD it was from Base Object>Company Lookup>FieldA. The same field I looked for moments earlier. This gives me major trust issues as now I wonder under what other conditions I need to be looking in other places to make sure I get all the dependencies (Scorecard reports of course don’t show up as dependencies anywhere (VOTE HERE), nor do dashboard filters (VOTE HERE)). It also means I have to go into each Data Designer object and pull up a dependency list and add those to my list as well. I can also see this being excruciatingly unintuitive for a new admin, who may miss this and end up with a bad time, or a worse time really. As a result, I have to dedicate inordinate amounts of time for what should be a relatively simple task of identifying usage. Analyzer was even more laughably inadequate to the task. Ask:Have Data Management identify all actual dependencies of fields, please and thank you.
